Twins’ Justin Morneau may not return this season

"I'm not making plans either way," manager Ron Gardenhire told the newspaper. "I'm letting Morneau do his thing. He's doing his workouts. They tell me they think he's moving forward, then you start looking at what you need to do, but not until then. "The plans are for sure to let him get well.""
Morneau, who is hitting .345 with 18 homers and 56 RBIs in 81 games this season, was sidelined after Sept. 12 last season because of a back injury. Yet, Minnesota still was able to erase a sizeable deficit in the A.L. Central and reach the postseason.

The Star Tribune noted that the minor league season soon will end, meaning Morneau has a short window during which to begin a rehab assignment. For now, he is working out at Target Field, though his baseball activities remain limited.
